SNAP Benefits Affected by Shutdown – How You Can Help
Because of the continuing government shutdown, families who would normally receive SNAP (formerly called “food stamps”) on November 1 will not receive their benefits and are facing significant food insecurity. Several of our mission partners are working to address this.
Here are some ways we can help:
Volunteer at Shared Table
Tuesday, November 25th, 9:00 am – 11:00 am to help pack boxes of food. Distribution Day is Wednesday, November 26th, 8:30 – 11:00 AM at El Pueblito Methodist Church in El Prado and, 2 to 3 PM at Talpa Community Center.
Donations of food and money to the Shared Table.
To make a financial contribution write a check to Shared Table and send to
P.O. Box 1302 El Prado, NM or donate online at www.elpueblitoumc.org
Donations of unexpired food may be made Monday – Thursday from 10-12 at El Pueblito Methodist Church located at 1309 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte
For more information contact Cheri Lyon at 505-440-6849 or taossharedtable@gmail.com
Donations of Smith’s & Albertson’s Gift Cards to the Nurturing Center
The Nurturing Center of Taos Behavioral Health is calling on our community to help fill the SNAP gap by donating grocery gift cards to Smith’s and Albertsons. You can drop your gift cards in the Enos Garcia Elementary box at church, and we will ensure the cards make it to the Nurturing Center.
These cards will allow families to purchase fresh essentials like milk, eggs, and produce to supplement what is available through our local food banks. All cards will be distributed directly to local families with children enrolled in Taos County schools.
Your generosity will directly support Taos families, impacted by the loss of federal assistance, so they can continue to provide healthy meals for their children.
Annual Alternative Gift Fair
Come join us for our Annual Gift Fair on Saturday, November 29th from 6 to 7 PM at Taos Lifestyle (815 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur, Taos). This year’s event will take place in conjunction with a concert at Mary’s Place at Taos Lifestyle (815 Paseo Del Pueblo Sur) featuring renowned alt-country artist and National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellow Rosie Flores.
Greening of the Church
Greening of the Church will be Saturday, November 29, from 10:00 – 12:00. Come and join the fun of getting the sanctuary and coffee room decorated and ready for Advent and Christmas.
December Book Club
Please note the time change – Starting in December we will meet at 5:00 PM
The next Book Club meeting is Thursday, December 4th in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, Potluck at 5:00 PM and the book discussion at 5:30 PM. If you have not joined us in person for a while, we now bring our own plates, silverware, drink and a dish to share for the potluck.
The December book is Heartwood, by Amity Gage, 2025, 320 Pages.
The January book is Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir 490 pages, 2021
Black & White Copies if Possible
If you’ve been in the church office in the last couple weeks, you’ve seen that we have a beautiful new copier! Hooray! This is happy news for everyone – anyone who has used the old copier knows it was on its dying breath. (During one particularly frustrating episode the last week we had it, Carol asked if we’d ever tried performing an exorcism on it…)
Our new copier charges 1 cent for black & white copies and 5 cents for colored copies. If you’re making copies or printing at the church and don’t need color, please make sure to press “black and white” on the left side of the copy screen. But if you DO need color (ex. a brochure or a children’s Sunday school lesson) feel free to use it!
Shared Church Calendar is Online
FPC Taos is proud to unveil a new public church calendar letting you know when space is available and meetings are taking place. Please visit https://bit.ly/FPCCalendar

Centering Prayer
A Centering Prayer Group is forming in Taos, sponsored by Contemplative Outreach. Starting November 12, the group will gather weekly in the St. James Parish Hall Santiago Room, 208 Camino de Santiago, Taos from 2-3 PM. Mother Mandy at St James has offered to host it, and Ursula Beck will be coordinating thru the statewide Contemplative Outreach Group. They will facilitate learning videos from Father Keating followed by Prayer. All are welcome.
Shared Table Needs Your Bags & Help
Shared Table needs your grocery store paper bags, plastic bags and cardboard egg cartons. Please drop off these items at El Pueblito Methodist Church, 1309 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte. You can leave them by the front door anytime. And come by Tuesday, November 25th, 9:00 am – 11:00 am to help pack boxes of food. Distribution Day is Wednesday, November 26th, 8:30 – 11:00 AM at El Pueblito Methodist Church in El Prado and, 2 to 3 PM at Talpa Community Center.
