Thank you from Pastor Ginna
Dear Church Family,
I want to thank you all so much for your prayers, love, and care, during the last two harrowing weeks of health complications. We are finally home, and I am recovering slowly but surely. Baby Caleb is absolutely perfect.
Many of you have sent me kind messages of love and support, and it may be a little while before I’m able to get back to y’all individually. So for now, I just want to say thank you for surrounding my family and me with your prayers. Your care has been a tangible embodiment of God’s grace.
All my love,
Ginna
While Pastor Ginna Is Away
Please remember that the greatest gift you can give Pastor Ginna right now is space and time to bond with Caleb. To that end, please do not text Ginna with any church business and limit personal texts until she returns June 1. If you would like to send Ginna well-wishes, please email her at pastorginnabairby@gmail.com. You will receive an away notice, but she does have access to these messages. Because her focus is on her new little one, please accept that she may not be able to respond. Let’s all work together to protect her time as a new mother! Thank you.
Meal Train for The Bairby Family
The Meal Train for The Bairby Family is ready to go! Here is the link for the website: https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/rynw17.
If you need help signing up to the website to provide a meal, please call Valerie (575-758-3124) or email her (churchoffice@firstpresbyteriantaos.com) during working hours and she will sign you up.
We are so grateful for all those willing to sign up to bring food. Please keep in mind that an offer to bring food is just that, not a guaranteed opportunity for a visit or to meet the baby. Thank you in advance for your willingness to be flexible!
One Great Hour of Sharing
On Easter Sunday (April 5th), we will be taking offerings for One Great Hour of Sharing. One Great Hour of Sharing is centered in the call to do our part to advocate for justice so every person can truly live the life God intends for them.
Painting and Carpeting in the Back Building Project
The Church has decided to paint the inside of our back building starting Monday, April 6th. This is needed as a follow-up to repair work on the walls from the water leak several years ago. We are also replacing carpet in our offices immediately after we complete the painting. We expect to complete all of this work during the month of April and will coordinate with our users to minimize disruption. Our schedule may change but for now here is our plan:
• Fellowship Hall & Kitchen will be painted and not available for use from April 6 to 11. Users can return Monday, April 13th.
• Lounge will be painted April 13 to 15. Users can return April 30, as this space will be used by Valerie as a temporary office while her office is painted and carpeted.
• Entryway and Hallway will be painted April 27 to 29. Building users to be careful during this period.
Painting contractor understands the need for quiet while users are in the building
Enos Garcia Elementary School – Need for Shoes
Enos has expressed a need for shoes for the children and their families. We will be setting up a shoe drive by placing boxes in the sanctuary for the congregation to donate new shoes for kids (size 11 and up) and new or gently used shoes for adults.
Gentle Yoga Class is Returning to FPC Taos!
We are excited to announce that our church’s Gentle Yoga Class has found a new teacher and will be restarting on April 4th. Unitarian minister Diana Davies will lead a gentle, meditative practice from 10:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturdays in the back building fellowship hall. Please note that on April 4th and 11th, the class will meet in the Main Office. As before, the class will be free and by donation. All donations will go to the Taos Medical Debt Relief Project. For more information, email Diana at dkalid@startmail.com.
Here’s a little self-introduction from Diana:
I am so happy to have the opportunity to teach a free, gentle yoga class at First Presbyterian. I’m a 200-hr Registered Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance. My training is in Pranotthan Yoga, which is from the Kripalu lineage. This form of yoga is inherently gentle and inward-focused. Unlike some other traditions that place a greater emphasis on athleticism or strict form, Kripalu (including Pranotthan) focuses on self-observation without judgment. A typical class will have a guiding theme of some kind and will incorporate breathwork, asanas/poses, and meditation. Because the focus is on compassionate self-awareness rather than trying to achieve the “perfect” pose, this form of yoga is appropriate for nearly all bodies and all experience levels, from beginner-beginners to advanced.
I have taught gentle hatha yoga classes in a studio setting; one-on-one classes with older students; and chair yoga in a clinical setting. I also volunteered with the Prison Yoga Project, teaching incarcerated men and women in Maryland jails and prisons. I have specialized training in trauma-informed yoga, yoga for veterans, and yin yoga. My husband and I moved to the Taos area in spring 2024. I am a part-time minister at the Unitarian Congregation of Taos, a spiritual director, and a market gardener. I look forward to meeting you! – Diana Davies
