Sacred Places Digest: National Fund for Sacred Places Site Visit
Our congregation is blessed!
In the fall of 2024, First Presbyterian Church of Taos received notice that our church had been approved for a matching grant from the National Fund for Sacred Places (NFSP) in the amount of $92,500. Congregation members and friends pledged and donated funds to meet this obligation and with faith and generosity gave of resources and time to fulfill this goal. Building renovations began in early 2025, and over the course of the spring and summer of this year, our patience and efforts took shape in the beautiful restoration of our facility. All of this in just one year’s time!

On November 4, 2025, representatives from the NFSP will meet with members of our Sacred Places Committee which coordinated these rehabilitation efforts. This meeting is the next-to-last step in this project to restore our physical building as we prepare our church for God’s work for the future. The last step is the final payment of any outstanding Sacred Places pledges through 2026.

The National Fund for Sacred Places is part of the larger effort of the National Trust for Historic Preservation to preserve historically significant architecture in the United States. It is funded largely through private donations. The criteria for selecting a building for restoration grant funding include architectural and historical significance of the structure and how the faith community’s civic assets serve the broader community.

“Sacred places hold power to inspire awe, joy, and a sense of connection, belonging, and purpose,” said Carol Quillen, President and CEO of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. “The grants and technical support provided by the National Fund will ensure that these spaces serve as meaningful centers within their communities for generations.”

Our congregation is called to be a light in the world, serving our community and welcoming and hosting those who pass through our midst. God has provided means and resources and the Spirit’s grace and generosity so that we may become a part of Christ’s light to the world. May it be so.

Thanks be to God!

“Now to One who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to God be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. Amen.” ~Ephesians 3:20-21

Stewardship Season: Pledge Cards Are Due
Last Sunday was Stewardship Commitment Sunday, and so far, we are 91% of the way to our pledge goal for 2026. We need YOUR HELP to get the rest of the way there. Please prayerfully consider your new pledge, and talk to a member of Budget & Stewardship Committee if you have any questions. Pledge cards may be dropped in the Sunday collection plate, handed into the office, or mailed to the church.

SNAP Benefits Affected by Shutdown – How You Can Help
Because of the continuing government shutdown, families who would normally receive SNAP (formerly called “food stamps”) on November 1 will not receive their benefits and are facing significant food insecurity. Several of our mission partners are working to address this.

Here are some ways we can help:
-Volunteer at Shared Table
Tuesday, November 11th from 8-11am or
Wednesday, November 12th from 7:45 am – 11:30 am.
Or Tuesday, November 25th and Wednesday, November 26th at the same times.
-Donations of food and money to the Shared Table.
To make a financial contribution write a check to Shared Table and send to
P.O. Box 1302 El Prado, NM or donate online at www.elpueblitoumc.org
-Donations of unexpired food may be made Monday – Thursday from 10-12 at El Pueblito Methodist Church located at 1309 Paseo Del Pueblo Norte
For more information contact Cheri Lyon at 505-440-6849 or taossharedtable@gmail.com
-Donations of Smith’s & Albertson’s Gift Cards to the Nurturing Center
The Nurturing Center of Taos Behavioral Health is calling on our community to help fill the SNAP gap by donating grocery gift cards to Smith’s and Albertsons. You can drop your gift cards in the Enos Garcia Elementary box at church, and we will ensure the cards make it to the Nurturing Center.
These cards will allow families to purchase fresh essentials like milk, eggs, and produce to supplement what is available through our local food banks. All cards will be distributed directly to local families with children enrolled in Taos County schools.
Your generosity will directly support Taos families, impacted by the loss of federal assistance, so they can continue to provide healthy meals for their children.

Book Club Meeting
The next Book Club meeting is Thursday, November 6th in the Fellowship Hall of the First Presbyterian Church, Potluck at 5:30 PM and the book discussion at 6:00 PM. If you have not joined us in person for a while, we now bring our own plates, silverware, drink and a dish to share for the potluck.
The November book is The Kashmir Shawl by Rosie Thomas 400 pg, 2011
The December book is Heartwood, by Amity Gage, 2025, 320 Pages
